Minstrel Show Memories 1959 @ RGHS

"During the late 50's and early 60's the production of The Minstrel Show, modeled on the old time vaudeville touring shows was one of the highlights of the student activities program at Royal George. Under the very capable direction of Mrs. Wheatley as many as 50 of the senior students would participate in this annual event. The show featured one M.C.(Mr. Interlocutor) 6 end men who traded corny jokes with the interlocutor and sang songs, female partners of the end men who also sang with the end men and performed solos and the school choir. In 1959 Mr Dorgan, a teacher and his wife also participated and performed the charleston. Although it would be deemed politically-incorrect today , the show was always a sell-out with one performance for the student body during school hours and two performances for the general public on successive nights." PS if you want to run a quiz re some of the main participants , let me know and I will forward names. John

Thanks John McC

Just took a quick peek at your blog site. Glad to see you're not focused on political razzmatazz - Lord knows we are getting enough of it via radio, tv right now as we live through yet another Federal election!

WRT the minstral show pic, I know Irene was in this show one year and I'm certain that she is the 3rd gal from the left in the first row of girls sitting on chairs. Johnny McC can correct if I'm wrong, but it sure looks like her!

Our Christmas season was great - no weight gain here - couldn't afford to put on any extra pounds so we took it easy. Had a great time with our son and his family on Christmas day. I received some lovely pictures of Irene and Lynn's grandchildren, so I will scan and send to you on the weekend.

Take care! Good to hear from you! All my best to you and yours for a happy and healthy 2006!
