Devonshire Gang Memories

HELLO MARSTON

IT WAS THIS TIME OF YEAR, GIVE OR TAKE A WEEK OR TWO, THE YEAR I THINK
THE BIG BOPPER BIT THE BULLET; (1958-1959). WELL GEORGE VINE HAD DOG
OVERLOAD, HIS DOG HAD DOGGED. HE DIDN'T GO THE FLUSH-A-BYE ROUTE, SO NOW HE WAS UNDER PRESSURE TO DOWNSIZE EITHER BY HIS GRANDMOTHER OR FATHER.

THIS IS WHERE MY BROTHER AND I GOT HORNSWOGGLED INTO ADOPTING A PUPPY FROM HIS DILEMMA. IT DIDN'T' TAKE ANY RESISTANCE ON OUR PART BUT TO GET IT PAST HIGHER AUTHORITY AT HOME, MY MOTHER POSED A PROBLEM. I DON'T REMEMBER WHO CAME UP WITH THE IDEA, AFTER LOTS OF SMOKING, AND SMOKE PLUS BURNING SMELLS, A PLOT WAS HATCHED. EVEN THOUGH MY BROTHER STEVIE AND I WANTED THE PUPPY BADLY, WE WOULD SACRIFICE AND GIVE IT TO OUR MOTHER AS A MOTHER'S DAY PRESENT.

OH MY, HOW THOUGHTFUL AND ORIGINAL.GLORY BE, SHE AGREED, BUT WITH MANY STIPULATIONS, PLUS ADDENDUMS AND BYLAWS. ALONG WITH THE GROOMING, WALKING,SHOVELING UP AFTER, TRAINING, TRIXIE WOULD HAVE TO BE FIXED, SPAYED, NEUTERED, OKAY ALREADY. WE HAD LOST ANOTHER DOG EARLIER BECAUSE OF GUS RICHARDSON'S DOG " LUCKY". HE HAD GOTTEN LUCKY AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF OUR POOR TIED UP BONNIE. WE WOKE UP WITH SCREAMING NIGHTMARES GUS. SHE HAD TO BE SHIPPED TO THE FARM TO US BUT MORE THAN LIKELY THUMPED. IT'S OKAY GUS I FORGIVE YOU.

TRIXIE SURVIVED, WAS FIXED AND LASTED ABOUT 12 YEARS.
THE McCONACHIE'S GOT ONE OF THESE SOUPHOUNDS FROM THE SAME LITTER.
DOES THIS MEAN THAT WE ARE ALL RELATED? ONE DAY AT VINES AFTER SCHOOL, GEORGE AND I WERE GOING OUT BLASTING OR HUNTING OR WHATEVER AND MRS. VINE, GEORGE'S GRANNY WAS HAVING TEA WITH MRS. MARGARET JACKSON. I SAID HELLO BEING THE POLITE FELLOW I WAS, UNKNOWING THAT THIS WAS MY MOTHER-IN-LAW TO BE. I GUESS THIS IS ENOUGH RUNNING
OFF AT THE MOUTH FOR NOW.

RICHARD.................................

Thanks Richard W.

Maybe we can get more of these stories on the blog. I remember being chased by a Muskrat under a bridge on the Golf course with Stevie
