A little Montreal History

Although he only spent one season with the Montreal Royals of the International league(home field was Delorimer Downs) Jackie Robinson endeared himself to Montrealers with his skill and charm. Branch Rickey , general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers knew Robinson was destined for greatness but needed a year of seasoning in a friendly environment(which Montreal was) before bringing him up to the "bigs".The decision by Rickey to break the colour barrier in professional baseball was deemed by many to be his greatest legacy.
