I believe your flower is a "sunflower"
Taken is the shadows it's hard to see--but that's my guess.

You're both right. It is a Sunflower and was taken in broad sunlight. It is a sunflower variant and it's dark maroon almost black. You can see a little color on the one beside the main flower.
