Montreal & Christmas Memories of the Old Days

Marty, just a couple of notes re Montreal and Christmas.

Diane and I were in Montreal last weekend and so we decided along with her cousin and his wife to go down to Ste. Catherine St. and wander around on a Sunday morning . What a great couple of hours.

We first stopped at the Ogilvy's Christmas window display, What a treat, everything is as I remember it from when I was a kid. We next went to the former Eaton's store which has been completely renovated but the main doors still remain and again brought back memories of going through the big front doors to go up and see Santa Claus and then to ride on the little train .

That was pretty much it for the nostalgia . That whole area is now a complete underground city of boutiques restaurants etc which stretches from Eaton’s under the Christ Church Cathedral and hooks up with the original Place Ville Marie underground Mall.

One need never go outside to complete all their Christmas shopping but as the weather was mild enough we did the street walk amongst the great number of shoppers and ended up at Reuben's from a mandatory Smoked Meat sandwich before heading home.

PS, while we were down there we had CJAD radio on in the car and for anyone who is interested Paul Reid's Christmas show will be broadcast each Sunday in Dec, from 6:00-9:00 on the internet at

Thanks John McC.
