Butterflies

Monarch butterfies at Dirty Pelican Pier...Texas

Thought you might enjoy these. I took them early this morning (10/29/07) by the Dirty Pelican Pier. There were literally THOUSANDS of monarch butterflies. Saw them flying on the beach just south of High Island last night coming back from Beaumont. Thanks to friends, I learned they'd be around at least until today, so I didn't miss out. Apparently they 'roosted' (if that's what butterflies do) in the bushes, salt cedars, and grasses along the shore overnight; and this morning, as the sun dried the dew from their wings, they took to the air. The sky was filled with them. They were a breathtaking sight. Gosh I LOVE our peninsula!! You never know what you might see!

Thanks Jean McS.
