Retirement

Jean Chretien's Retirement Dinner

At a dinner thrown in her husband's honour, a man turned to Madame
Chr├ętien and said, "Your husband has been such a prominent public figure with
such a busy schedule. How quiet retirement will seem in comparison.

What are You most looking forward to in these retirement years?"

"A penis," replied Madame Aline Chr├ętien. A hush fell over the
table.
Everyone heard her answer yet no one knew what to say next.
Jean leaned over to his wife and said, "Aline, in Hinglish dey
Pronounce dat word, "Appiness".

Great bird Pics..!!

Hello Marty,In scanning through your blog's archives, it is apparent that there are some keen ornithologists in the ranks. Thought they might appreciate these photos. The first picture is the immediately recognizable Blue Jay, Cyanocitta cristata. The second picture is of the same bird - later in life. It seems they are prone to the same body mass redistribution problems we encounter.

Cheers,George (Brian)

Minstrel Show 1959

Hi Marston,

Attached is a copy of Minstrel Show 1959 and 36 numbered people. Back Row 1-8, Middle Row 9-20, Front Row 21-36. I am sure of only 5 people: #14 - Keith Morrison, #17 - Linda Alexander, #19 - Phyllis Bannister, #20 - Mrs. Wheatley, #36 - Norman Morley. The other end-men (#21, 22, 23, 34 & 35) included, I think: John McConachie, Gus Richardson, Gary and Rodney Farber, and Ken St. Germain. Other guesses are: #6 - Irene Highfield, #10 - Marilyn Mitchell, #11 - Leah Laughlin, #12 - Linda Murray, #13 - Allison Messner, #18 - Sharon Fogarty, #26 - Linda Laughlin, #27 - Cecil Emblem, #28 - Bobby Geary, #29 - Louis Rivers, #32 - Diane Gregory. HELP! ex-pat GPKers.

Did anyone figure out the mystery girl in 1958-59 Grade 10 photo of John McConachie's class?

Linda A.

Dear Marston,

Shame on Ralph Bennett, who mistook you for Alan Houle. And to Diane G. & John McC., Roger Worthington lived on Burton across the street from Mary Rollins. I guess he was in the Park for only a couple of years.

Below are lyrics of our minstrel show opening number (I believe):

You oughta see Mr. Jones when he rattles them bones,
Old Colonel Brown foolin' round like a clown,
Miss Virginia, who is past eighty-three,
Shoutin' "I'm full of pep,
Watch your step, watch your step!"

One-legged Joe danced around on his toe,
Threw away his crutch and hollered "let 'er go",
Oh honey, hail, hail, the gang's all here
At the Alabama Jubilee.

Strange how one can remember the lyrics of stuff we sang/listened to in the '50s & '60s.

Linda A-LaR.

Reflections

I've had amnesia...... once or twice.
All I ask is a chance to prove that money can't make me happy.
What is a free gift? aren't all gifts free?
They told me that I was gullible and I believed them.
I"ll say one thing about egotist...we don't talk about other people.
I use to be indecisive..now, I'm not so sure anymore.
Oh ya.. "how in the hell can there be self help groups"?
If swimming is so good for your figure, how do we explain whales.?
And finally..... before I hit the sheets, one final question.."is it me,
or do buffalo wings taste like chicken wings?.

I think I have felt that way a couple of times

Grade 10 49 Years Ago. Any Guesses on who they are? (Answered)

Hello Marty.

Sorry you weren't able to make it to GFPK I was very much looking forward to seeing you again. In answer to your call for photos the timing is perfect because I was talking up just that idea with a number of people when were at the reunion and I had a number of people say yes they would start to look through their old albums and dig out material for the blog.

We now just have to stay on top to ensure they fulfil their commitment. To start the ball rolling I am attaching a grade 10 class photo from 49 yrs ago and I think it would be a good "guess who" to start the new season of the blog. Before I go I would be remiss if I didn't join all the other people who have expressed their appreciation for the job that Janet,Donnie and Sandy did in putting this years reunion together. It was just a super weekend and since I can't say thank you any better than my buddie Swinnie has already done I will just say thanks for the memories and renewed friendships..
JMcC
PS the classmates photo that Murray sent in was five of us who were in the grade six photo (Tony Caines with Eddie Massey as Santa Claus) that you ran on the blog back in Dec.Some people that I hadn't seen in 53 yrs—

Thanks John McC.
Hi Marty,

Here is my guess for the class picture

Back row: Brian Pendlebury, Steve Messner. Harold Walker, Wally Robinson

Middle Row : Gary Farber, -----, ------, John McConachie, Keith Morrison, Bob Godfrey, -----, -----, -----

Front row: Cliff Farber, Stan Sequin, ------, Barbara Ridewood, -------, Johanna Korvemaker, -------, Vena Dawes, ------, Cliff Walker

I am sure there are going to be a lot of people send in their guesses.

Sandy

THANKS MARTY

NORMAND SIMARD

P.S. MARTY I DON'T WANT TO GO IN HIDING IN THE G.PK. SEWERS IN 2011 FOR THE CENTENNIAL. SO I APOLOGIZE FOR SAYING I WAS WAY WAY YOUNGER THAN THE GIRLS AND BOYS ON THE 1958 PIC, I AM SURE THEY ARE NOT THAT OLD TODAY,JUST 49 YEARS MORE IT IS NOT VERY MUCH. OH WELL. 10-4

Hi Marty,

Given the good quality of the picture, it should be possible to identify everyone. I' m sure that most people looking at this photo find that all of the individuals fall into one of two categories:-

1. Those immediately recognized and can be named.

2. Those faces recognized, but the name can't be recalled.

For me, there is a third category

3. Those whose faces I don't even recognize. This is the scary one - I was there.

Here goes:-

First row: Rodney Farber, Stan Seguin, ?, Barbara Ridewood, Georgia Moir, Barbara Nose, ?, ?, Lorne Roach, ?

Second row: Bruce Benton (teacher), Gary Farber, ?, ?, John McConachie, Keith Morrison,Bob Godfrey, David Wright, ?, ?.

Back Row: George (Brian) Pendlebury, Steve Messner(?), ?, Wally ______(?).

I'm sure others will fill in the blanks.

Cheers,

George (Brian)

Dear Marston,

Does John McConachie know all his classmates? I can't name 4 boys in middle row and 1 girl in front row. Do people remember when Ronnie Rogan and Vena Dawes were an item -- he had painted on the trunk of his car: R. R. x V. D. It looked like he had an STD.

Grade 10 - 1958-59

B.R. - Brian Pendlebury III, Steve Messner, Harold Walker, Wally Robinson
M.R. - Teacher Bruce Benton, Gary Farber, ?, ?, John McConachie, Keith "Maynard" Morrison, Bob Godefroy, Ross Stone, ?, ?
F.R. - Rodney Farber, Stan Seguin, ?, Barb Ridewood, Georgia Moir, Johanna Korvemaker, Barbara Valentine, Vena Dawes, Lorne Roach, Cliff Walker.

Is there a prize? Ha, ha. When I figure out how to scan photos and attach to e-mails, I will forward some material to you. I'm relatively new to this technology.

Questions to make you ponder

Can you cry under water?
How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?
Why do you have to "put your two cents in".. but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?
Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?
Why does a round pizza come in a square box?
What disease did cured ham actually have?
How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours?
If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?
Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?
Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway.
Why is "bra" singular and "panties" plural?
Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?
If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?
Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane ?
If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?
Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!
If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?
If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?
If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?
Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?
Why did you just try singing the two songs above?
Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your butt?
Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?
Do you ever wonder why you gave me your e-mail address in the first place?

Thanks Bob H.

Martson

Its been a while but time seems to slide when your having fun.. There was some excitement in " The Hat" yesterday. We had an early morning fire in the old down town section.
5 businesses were destroyed. My Daughter runs an african adoption agency call, CAFAC out of one of the building surounded by fire.. Seems it was built later than the others and was the only one with a fire wall built according to fire regulations. After the fire, there was nothing left but chared walls and black debris except for their building. Nothing inside effected the fire men say, other than smoke damage. They let her back in the building about 5 minutes ago but she hasn't reported or confirmed the good/bad news yet. Some of the record for adoption take a year or so to compile and would be very difficult to replace so she is counting her blessings right about now.

Marty Back in 1966 I started to work at Loyola College as business and facilities manager of the athletic dept. One of my duties was the promotions and communications for the department and I consequently became a member of the Montreal Press Club which had its headquarters in the basement of the Mount royal Hotel. I soon met and became friends with Montreals favourite son CJAD DJ Paul Reid. Paul is arguably most famous for his Christmas broadcast but he did read beautiful poetry on his nightly show. One of my favourites is Vagabond House which Paul gave me a copy of. Attached is a copy of page one of five. I thought you might run a page a day for a week. Let me know if you think that will fly and I will send the other pages. John

Garage Sale... GREAT DEALS I'm Told...!!

Hi Marston

I noticed Linda wrote about meeting up with me and my aunt. It's actually my mother's house that we have sold.

We're having a garage sale on Saturday, Sept. 29th, and I was hoping you'd be kind enough to mention on your blog.

It's this Saturday, from 9 am to 2 pm and It's at 214 Fairfield Avenue.

I'll take a photo of any customer who mentions that they heard about the garage sale on your blog. Then I'll email you the photos when I get back to Calgary next week.

Could be interesting. Keep up the good work.

David MacN is on the mend

Well , I havent posted here for awhile and mainly due to being out of
Action for about 8 weeks . I somehow managed to get the potentially fatal
flesh eating disease in my right leg and after 8 doctors and 4 hospitals they managed to stop its appetite and save my leg . It is fairly scarred up
and I'm not ready to run a marathon but at least I dont have to buy chrome
polish to keep it clean . My brother Al and my sister Sandra were by my
side supporting me through the whole ordeal and they both travelled far and
sacrificed lots to show me their support . Family is definitely the
best medicine for any illness. My wife gail and my daughter Jessica were
also by my side every minute of every day .We came within one day of having to amputate but miraculously the ant-biotics finally won over the nasty
streptococcol bug. I hope you don't get too grossed out but below is a
picture of my leg when the bug had actually stopped and pre surgery
where they removed all the dead tissue . Everyone needs to know that this
kind of infection can happen to anyone and if you see any signs of infection in a wound of any size , you should be absolutely persistent in getting it
looked after . My particular case happened instantly and actually entered
through a small wound I had gotten from a rose bush . I suffered a toxic shock reaction as the bacteria passed through my entire blood system before
returning to its entry point and devouring most of the tissue on my
leg.

Sorry for the nasty photo but it is a warning to all to pay attention
To infections no matter how small they begin.

Where Is She Now??? (One Clue Rec'd)

Does anyone know what became of Diane Bayfield She lived on Greenfield Ave. I think she might have been in a class with Sandy R.

MN

Hi Marty,
I don't know if you remember me but I new you in school. I was Diane Knight. I lived on Fairfield and my brother is Fred married to Brenda Fielding.
The last I heard from Dianne Bayfield's brother Gord is she is living in the states. She married George Williamson from the Park. I've forgotten which state she is in.
Her brother has a appliance repair business on the Southshore. May be someone can find out something for you.
I'm living in Okotoks Alberta now. Just south of Calgary. We moved here 2 years ago. We are really enjoying it. We are closer to the family. I try to get back to G.F.P. at least once a year.
I really enjoy your Blog. Thanks for all the work you do.
I'm sorry I missed the reunion. We went to the one 2 years ago and had a super time. It's great to see everyone.
Take care and I hope I was a little helpful.
