I wonder how many out there recognize this building. It is located down the hill from the Herbert Reddy.

Hi Marty,

The picture of the building down the street from the
Herbert Reddy Memorial Hospital is the Atwater Market.


When I was a child, my parents made regular trips to
the market to buy fresh produce directly from the
farmers. I especially remember the bushels of apples
that my father bought to provide us with a healthy
snack. Inside the building, one could also buy meat.
The concept was very similar to the St. Lawrence
Market here in Toronto but on a larger scale.

A special treat for us was also a stop at a nearby
restaurant on Notre Dame Street for lunch. The menu
consisted of "steamies" and spruce beer. I have no
idea whatever became of spruce beer but perhaps some
of your readers do.

When Millie lived in the boarding house in Weredale Park we
used to shop there.
