Win's Vacation Pics

We had planned to leave Yellowstone Park by driving to Cooke City, Montana but the road was blocked due to heavy snow so we ended up taking the route to Gardiner, Montana.......The inconvience turned out to be a treasure in disguise as this route took us through Mammoth Hot Springs (One of the most unusual places on earth I'm sure).

This place is subject to the same thermal activity as the Old Faithful area but presented in a different way........ I don't pretend to understand exactly what is happening but the presence of magma, heat, water & limestone changes the landscape totally and if it wasn't for the Town of Mammoth Hot Springs off in the distance you would swear that you were any place other than good old mother earth!!

It's a shame that the photos can't capture what really is going on.........For instance that huge "Mound??" with the car next to it actually has a thin layer of water oozing from the top and sides (which I guess allows it to get larger and larger as the years go by!!) This is one area that you really do want to stay on the walkways and out of danger!! ..........Another place where you just shake your head in wonderment as to what you just experienced!!

We stayed overnight in Gardiner, Mt. ..................Where I learned something about a very unusual animal..................

Later..............Win

Thanks Win
