Thanks George P.
In Texas it depends if it is a two lane or a four lane highway. A two lane road requires a dramatic reduction of speed while passing an emergency vehicle.
In Florida, an atheist became incensed over the preparation of Easter and Passover holidays. He decided to contact his lawyer about the discrimination inflicted on atheists by the constant celebrations afforded to Christians and Jews with all their holidays while atheists had no holiday to celebrate.
The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the long passionate presentation by the lawyer, the Judge banged his gavel and declared, 'Case dismissed ! '
The lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and said, 'Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and many other observances. Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah...yet my client and all other atheists have no such holiday !'
The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said, 'Obviously your client is too confused to even know about, much less celebrate his own atheists' holiday!'
The lawyer pompously said, 'Your Honor, we are unaware of any such holiday for atheists. Just when might that holiday be, your Honor? '
The judge said, "Well it comes every year on exactly the same date - its April 1st ! "
"Since our calendar sets April 1st as 'April Fools Day,' consider that Psalm 14:1 states,
' The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, in my opinion, if your client says there is no God, then by scripture, he is a fool, and April 1st is his holiday !
Now have a good day and get out of my courtroom !!!!"
As much as we dislike paying health insurance premiums, this offers a new perspective. Please watch this and recall it in November.
A short but poignant independent film on government sponsored healthcare systems.
Everyone who plans to vote for our new President in 2008 should see
this, regardless of the person for whom they would vote.
I normally won't post political issues here but I thought I'd share this one. I don't agree that our Health Care system is the best in the world, it may be the most expensive in the world though
Click on the arrows in the right column to the left of each flight. The one
that shows them all in action is most interesting. It reveals how well the
plan had been developed, barring departure delays. I wonder if the original
plan was to have them all strike their targets at the same time?
And they did it all with U.S. aircraft, U.S. flight schools, and a few box cutters

I know the blog site is all about the park but I just wanted to share these
pics with everyone. This is our view from the front deck of our home in
Nanaimo. The view is always the same as in the direction that we are
looking, however, as you can see, every day I take a picture the view is
just a little different! We are so enjoying "The Best Place on Earth" -
that's BC's new slogan on the new license plates and in the ads for their
150th anniversary celebrations going on this year.
And, bonus, Spring has already sprung here - temps have been close to
15C(~60F) every day with lots of sunshine and warmth for the past two weeks!
Definite proof that this is the best place on earth!
Regards to all!
You Lucky Rascal...!!!
Also this site is for all GPKer's and our friends to use and share with all..
I just stumbled on his name when I was researching for a pool.
I thought that our dauntless sleuth Normand might turn up something
usable after getting the heads up.
Thanks Ed B.

Hi Marty.........Again this year Ralph & Millie B. gave us an Amaryllis bulb which we potted.
In December it bloomed and we ended up with five (5) really nice flowers. When they died off we cut the stem back to approx. three (3) inches high and we figured that would be it for this year. Over a period of time this marvelous plant started to grow again and here we are with four (4) new flowers very late in February!!
My question is, to all the Gfpkers and ex-Gfpkers who are up on their horticulture, is this normal or did we just luck out!!
Thanks - Win S. - ................P.S. We re-planted last years' bulb and the leaves of the plant grew but flowerless!!
Thanks Win S.

The reason the Police were at the Legion is that one of the female members had her wallet stolen while out shopping and only noticed it missing when she was at the Legion. The police were there only to take a report.
Here is a photo of Madeleine and May Burke with a friend Gwyn Cann on the Miller St. Bridge (about 80 yards) south of Regent St. about 1936. The Burke family lived beside the "Big Creek" across the street from the Ellisons.
The creeks of Greenfield Park were filled in when the streets were paved 1960.
Its one thing to find out that Wright is Wrong but Millie put me into a real funk with her Easter facts. I have been hoping for years to live long enough to see the earliest Easter ever and she tells me I am not going to live long enough.... what a bummer.
PS Normand does not need to explain himself. His friends have a sense of humour.
Thanks Bob Teasing can be fun but it must not be hurtful….
I looked around and saw the source of his merriment. It was a man whose pants were baggy with a zipper at half-mast and his toes poked out of would-be shoes. His shirt was dirty and his hair was uncombed and unwashed. His whiskers were too short to be called a beard and his nose was so varicose it looked like a road map.
We were too far from him to smell, but I was sure he smelled. His hands waved and flapped on loose wrists. 'Hi there, baby; hi there, big boy. I see ya, buster,' the man said to Erik.
My husband and I exchanged looks, 'What do we do?'
Erik continued to laugh and answer, 'Hi.'
Everyone in the restaurant noticed and looked at us and then at the man. The old geezer was creating a nuisance with my beautiful baby. Our meal came and the man began shouting from across the room, 'Do ya patty cake? Do you know peek-a-boo? Hey, look, he knows peek- a-boo.'
Nobody thought the old man was cute. He was obviously drunk.
My husband and I were embarrassed. We ate in silence; all except for Erik, who was running through his repertoire for the admiring skid-row bum, who in turn, reciprocated with his cute comments.
We finally got through the meal and headed for the door. My husband went to pay the check and told me to meet him in the parking lot. The old man sat poised between me and the door. 'Lord, just let me out of here before he speaks to me or Erik,' I prayed. As I drew closer to the man, I turned my back trying to sidestep him and avoid any air he might be breathing. As I did, Erik leaned over my arm, reaching with both arms in a baby's 'pick-me-up' position. Before I could stop him, Erik had propelled himself from my arms to the man.
Suddenly a very old smelly man and a very young baby consummated their love and kinship. Erik in an act of total trust, love, and submission laid his tiny head upon the man's ragged shoulder. The man's eyes closed, and I saw tears hover beneath his lashes. His aged hands full of grime, pain, and hard labor, cradled my baby's botto m and stroked his back. No two beings have ever loved so deeply for so short a time.
I stood awestruck. The old man rocked and cradled Erik in his arms and his eyes opened and set squarely on mine. He said in a firm commanding voice, 'You take care of this baby.'
Somehow I managed, 'I will,' from a throat that contained a stone.
He pried Erik from his chest, lovingly and longingly, as though he were in pain. I received my baby, and the man said, 'God bless you, ma'am, you've given me my Christmas gift.'
I said nothing more than a muttered thanks. With Erik in my arms, I ran for the car. My husband was wondering why I was crying and holding Erik so tightly, and why I was saying, 'My God, my God, forgive me.'
I had just witnessed Christ's love shown through the innocence of a tiny child who saw no sin, who made no judgment; a child who saw a soul, and a mother who saw a suit of clothes. I was a Christian who was blind, holding a child who was not. I felt it was God asking, 'Are you willing to share your son for a moment?' when He shared His for all eternity.
The ragged old man, unwittingly, had reminded me, 'To enter the Kingdom of God , we must become as little childr en.'
If this has blessed you, please bless others by sending it on. Sometimes, it takes a child to remind us of what is really important. We must always remember who we are, where we came from and, most importantly, how we feel about others. The clothes on your back or the car that you drive or the house that you live in does not define you at all; it is how you treat your fellow man that identifies who you are.
This one is a keeper.
'It is better to be liked for the true you, than to be loved for who people think you are......'
Thanks Barb H.

My other memory is "How many times did I run for that over-packed #5 bus to get into work - cause I was too slow to walk to the corner of Churchill for the #1! That's why I will always be very grateful to Mr. Richardson (Gus' father) for being my driver to work at PVM, the best times were when Victoria Bridge was packed, and he would deek off to Dunkin Donuts for coffee!!
Every time Gus and John M. input to the blog, I get another "memory"..like the noon hour snowball fights at Third and Empire between the Fontaines/Meads/and anyone else who was around..
Millie, Carolyn, Donna, Barbara and I used to run like Mad!!! Or watching the Legion/Warrior baseball games where Bob would be pitching with that 'crazy' sidearm pitch, and WHO was the catcher??? Was it PINKY??? Enough. My head is in pain!!..gotta go, but I really enjoy this BLOG!!! Gale Anne
Thanks Gale Ann, Those were fun days, remember that creak that we used to play in catching the little minows and frogs. Those were simpler times and we did have a lot of fun in our old neighborhood

I have been asked several times about the E-mail address in the left side bar under the Title "Contact Me"
Spammers and hackers use web crawlers to look for E-mail addresses to send spam and virus containing E-mails. So I have removes the ampersand (@) and replaced it with the word AT and the DOT for the period (.) before the com.
I think most of you understand the address and also my E-mail is in the address book under the GPKer E-mail addresses in the Links
What is this story about the legion ? This big Raid that Normand ,Rene,Natalee, Boul Simard is on about? When I read this I contacted many members' and city officials about the so called police intervention.......at a dart tournny...........no one seems to know anything about this! Can you clearify or give more detail to this info. I've been a member of that BR. for 26 yrs, and even though I live in ontario now , I would have been notifyed by my contacts.
P.S Hey Normand are you alright ? did you get the right info? or is wrong always right in your mind?next time your on churchhill and empire at the lights, turn right on empire so you don't see anything that is not right.!!!!
Thanks Allan It’s all in good natured humor…
Maybe Normand can give a brief explanation to Allan
A note with the photograph:
Yeah, the cold temperatures (-5°F) came with a deep blue sky.
The wind hasn’t started and the snow from earlier in the week is still piled up.
You can see that when the eagles landed, they knocked the snow off their branches.
This was about 400 foot from our house in Eagle River, Alaska.
Thanks Jim E.
Do you realize how early Easter is this year? As you may know, Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.
Found out a couple of things you might be interested in! Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) than it is this year but that is pretty rare.
Here's the interesting info. This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! And only the most elderly of our population have ever before seen it this early (95 years old or above!). And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier! Here are the facts:
1) The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that!).
2) The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. So, no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year!
Thanks Millie McG.

Here is a picture of Sasha training her master. Its truly amazing how well trained Harry is. Sasha wakes him around 5 am every day, he immediately springs into action, quietly dresses so as not to wake anyone. I just find it incredible that she could get this bumbling fool to do her beckoning so quickly since his wife Pauline has been unable to train him to do the little things like leave the credit card at home or not buy a new car on a whim.
On the other hand all Sasha has to do is look at him with those big brown eyes and cock her head to one side and "Presto" he has leash in hand and heads to the door wagging his tongue in anticipation of going for a walk.
It was a typical Laurentian tourist town on Lake L'Achigan and when I was a counselor at the camp we were permitted to travel across the Lake on our evenings off and so when I moved back to "The Park" I had introduced my buddies to the place.
This one particular Fri we decided to go for the night but had to be back Sat morning as George Wade, a good friend of ours was coming home on leave from being stationed with the navy in Nova Scotia and he was coming over to Winston's house that morning. As things turned out we celebrated all night ,did not sleep and headed back Sat morning to get Swinnie home on time.
As it turned out Winston fell asleep in the car and so when we pulled up in front of his place I was delegated to get him out of the car and into the house. Not wishing to face the wrath of Mrs Swinwood, I sat Winston down on the little porch in the picture with his arms around the post , rang the bell and got the hell out of there before someone answered.
George Wade came over to Winston's at the appointed time and Mrs Swinwood assuming that Winston had been out with George the night before took a strip off George for keeping Winston out all night
I use to help them on a Saturday deliver oil to their customers. I can remember delivering to John Mc. house often. Lou use to fuel one of his taxi's with I believe Furnace oil and another oil mixed he had a Mercides Diesel at the time.
