Win's Road Trip

It seems like only yesterday - but that terrible day when Swissair Flight 111 crashed off the coast of Nova Scotia happened more than 11 years ago on September 2nd, 1998.

Rescue efforts which sadly turned out to be recovery efforts were staged from two locations - Peggys Cove and another small village named Blandford ...................This effort formed a triangle between the two towns and the crash site, therefore monuments have been erected in both villages - Peggys Cove pays tribute to thoses involved in the recovery operations and to the 229 souls on board the Swissair flight....................While the Blandford site lists the names of all the victims.

As happened in Gander with the Arrow air crash, the people of Peggys Cove and surrounding area " gave their all " to comfort the families and friends of those who perished in this disaster - as was done in Gander, every home, school and any other dwelling that was available was utilized to comfort the visitors ...................... Along with the Government and the Salvation Army the locals made sure that everyone would be well cared for during this terrible period. ................ As was evidenced in Gander, live long friendships were formed and these families and friends of the victims return regularly from Europe and The States to visit the two sites and renew the friendships made!!

Later.................Win

Thanks Win
