The Real Rainman

The brain is amazing!

The real life Rain Man died of a major heart attack on December 19, 2009 at 58 years of age in Salt Lake City , Utah .

The 1988 movie, "The Rain Man" won 4 Academy Awards and grossed $100 million at the box office.

He was a genius in 15 different subjects from history, literature, and geography, to numbers, sports, music and dates.

He could tell a person what happened on their birth date.

He never made eye contact with a person upon meeting, but for some reason, when Tom Cruise showed up, he looked up at him.

His motor skills were limited. He couldn't dress himself and turning on light fixtures was difficult.

His memory got better as he aged.

He was born with macrocephaly (drainage to the cerebellum).

He began memorizing when he was 16 months old.

He could read a book in an hour, and then would put the book back on the shelf... upside down.

Unique in that he would read a book... left page with his left eye and the right page with his right eye.

He could read 2 pages at a time in 8 to 10 seconds per page.

He could recall content of some 12,000 books from memory.

He could not walk till he was 4 yrs. old.

In psychological testing, he scored below average IQ of 73.

His parent's were told to put him in an institution, but they refused and raised him at home.

Thanks Margaret W.
